The Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) was founded in 1897 in response to failure to meet health needs of Canadians living in outlying areas. It is a national non-profit healthcare organization governed by a national volunteer board of directors. More than 13,000 staff and volunteers provide services that address local community health and home care needs. There are more than 75 programs and services with 52 sites serving Canadians from coast to coast. The VON has a presence in every province, in more than 1,200 communities.
The vision of the VON is to be Canada’s leading charitable organization addressing community health and social needs. Its mission is to be a charity, guided by the principles of primary healthcare, working in partnership with Canadians for a healthier society through leadership in community-based care; delivery of innovative, comprehensive health and social services; and influence in the development of health and social policy.
