Falls and injury from falls remain critical issues in healthcare safety. Falls are the leading cause of overall injury costs in Canada and account for $6.2 billion or 31% of total costs of all injuries in a year. In 2009, 41% of 1.7 million people injured stated they were injured in a fall. In 2008 - 2009, 53,545 Canadian older adults were admitted to hospital because of a fall which accounted for 85% of major injuries and 40% of which were hip fractures. This Learning series will run from September 2011 to March 2012.
Safer Healthcare Now! and the Canadian Patient Safety Institute in partnership with The Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario invite you to participate in a Falls Facilitated Learning Series designed to assist organization teams who are working on reducing falls and injury from falls either independently or who were previously enrolled in the Prevention of Falls in Long Term Care Collaborative (2008-2009) or Falls Virtual Learning Series (2010-2011) who require ongoing support to sustain these quality improvement efforts.
